A Heritage of Lacquer, Shaped by Time

Nearly a thousand years ago, A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains transformed the landscape of the Song dynasty into an enduring vision of Chinese beauty. HUASUO brings that timeless landscape to the wrist through traditional lacquer and Qiangjin gold-inlay craftsmanship. Built upon layers of natural lacquer, the dial is carefully carved by hand to form mountains, valleys, and flowing contours, before gold leaf is inlaid into the engraved lines and polished to reveal a subtle golden glow. Set against the deep lacquer surface, blue and gold evoke the magnificent colors of classical Chinese landscape painting. Paired with a Swiss automatic movement, this timepiece brings ancient courtly artistry into contemporary horology — turning a masterpiece of landscape into a work of wearable art.

Qiangjin Lacquer, Gold Traced Through Time

Qiangjin, or gold-inlaid lacquer, is a traditional Chinese decorative technique historically used on fine lacquerware, including objects created for imperial courts. Artisans first build the surface through repeated applications of natural lacquer, allowing each layer to cure and develop depth. Once the lacquer has reached the desired thickness, intricate landscape lines are carefully incised by hand. Gold leaf is then pressed into the engraved grooves before the surface is polished, revealing delicate golden lines beneath the dark lacquer.
On the watch dial, this centuries-old process is transformed into a miniature landscape. Every mountain contour and valley is individually carved, requiring patience, precision, and the steady hand of an experienced artisan. The result is a surface where traditional craftsmanship, natural materials, and the passage of time become inseparable.

A Landscape Carved by Hand

Inspired by A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, the dial transforms layered natural lacquer into a miniature landscape. Every ridge and valley is individually carved, making craftsmanship visible in every detail.

Gold Traced Through Lacquer

Fine gold leaf is carefully inlaid into hand-engraved lines across the lacquer surface. After polishing, the golden contours emerge subtly from the dark ground, creating depth, contrast, and an unmistakable Eastern character.

Ancient Craft, Modern Horology

Traditional Chinese lacquer artistry meets a Swiss SW300 automatic movement. The watch bridges two worlds of craftsmanship, bringing an ancient visual language into the precision of contemporary mechanical watchmaking.
